DFS – Fantasy Basketball – NBA FanDuel Initial Lineup – 1/23/19
It’s Wednesday and we have a big 10-game NBA Slate tonight that starts at 7:00 pm.
Let’s take a look at our initial lineup for FanDuel!
We’re going to start off with some value and go with Jeremy Lin of the Atlanta Hawks. Lin has been a solid producer in the back-up role in Atlanta this season and comes into a solid match-up against the Bulls averaging 10.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, & 3.6 apg. Lin was a battling an illness last week, but it looks like he is fully recovered as the he played an impressive 30 minutes against the Magic on Monday. Lin should have 30+ FanDuel point upside tonight against a Bulls team that is less than average against opposing PG’s and as I think he’ll see plenty up minutes, especially if Kevin Huerter is out again, I think he has some solid value tonight.
At our 2nd PG spot, as of right now, I’m putting in T.J. McConnell of the 76ers. Both Ben Simmons (Illness) & Jimmy Butler (Wrist) are currently GTD’s and if both happen to sit tonight, I think we could see McConnell get around 30 minutes. McConnell is averaging 1.03 FanDuel points/minute over his last 6 games and as the Spurs are ranked just 16th against opposing PG’s on the season, I think McConnell could be in for a huge night if Simmons & Butler can’t give it a go tonight.
We’re paying up at the SG spot tonight and it starts with Houston’s James Harden in what should a solid match-up against the Knicks. In his last 5 games, Harden is averaging an incredible 47.6 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 5.8 apg, 2.4 spg, & 1.0 bpg and he should once against be able to have a field day against a Knicks team that currently ranks just 22nd vs. opposing SG’s. The only thing slowing down Harden right now is if the game becomes a blowout, and although Houston is favored by a decent amount (-7.5), I’m going to get Harden in my initial lineup for now.
D’Angelo Russell has been incredible for the Nets as of late as over his last two games, he has combined for 71 points against the Kings & Magic. Russell and the Nets will be seeing the Magic against at home tonight and for $8,600, I think it’s hard not to get Russell in your lineup, especially after posting a 53.8 FanDuel point performance (40 pts, 7 ast, 2 reb, 1 stl) against the Magic last Friday. Russell is taking about 19 shots per game at home this season and if his hot hand continues tonight, I think he’ll be able to make it three consecutive games putting up 50+ FanDuel points.
We needed to find value at the SF position today and it starts with a risky pick in Miami’s Derrick Jones Jr. Miami has a log-jam of players at the SG/SF spot and trying to figure out Derrick Jones Jr’s minutes on a daily basis is almost an impossible take. What we do know however, is that when Jones Jr. has been given minutes, he has been very productive as he displayed in a 34.8 FanDuel Point performance (18 pts, 9 reb, 1 blk, 1 stl) against the Celtics on Monday. Jones Jr. has a great matchup against the Clippers who rank just 28th vs. opposing SF’s and I think that after a strong performance on Monday, Jones Jr. does see 20+ minutes tonight.
We’re going with another value pick at the SF spot tonight with Houston’s James Ennis III. Ennis III is seeing a bunch of minutes as of late, averaging 28.5 minutes over his last two games, and has come through with back-to-back 25+ FanDuel point performances. The match-up against the Knicks is a solid for Ennis as New York currently ranks just 18th vs. SF’s and realistically, I’m pretty much just hoping that either Jones Jr. or Ennis III has a decent game as I expect one of these two players will be my “low-scoring” option.
We’re paying up for Blake Griffin tonight as it currently looks like the Pistons will once against be without Andre Drummond who as of yesterday, has yet to clear concussion protocol. Griffin comes into this game averaging 26.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg, & 5.2 apg on the season and as he is averaging 51.1 FanDuel points since Drummond has been out, I think he is almost a must play in what should be a fast-paced game against the Pelicans.
I’m going with Bobby Portis tonight as although it was concerning that he saw just 18 minutes of action against Cleveland on Monday, I’m going to say that those minutes were down only due to the fact that the Bulls has this game in hand by early in the 4th quarter. In the three games since Wendell Carter Jr. has been out, Portis is averaging an impressive 15.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, & 2.3 apg in an average of 23 mpg while averaging an impressive 1.25 FanDuel points/min. Portis has a great match-up against the Hawks tonight who rank just 29th against opposing PF’s, and I think if Portis can see 25-30 minutes of action, he’ll put up 30-40 FanDuel points tonight.
Embiid & Vucevic have great match-ups tonight, however, as I’m paying up for Harden currently, I’ve decided to go more with a value pick center and roll with the Pelicans Jahlil Okafor. Okafor saw an incredible 35 minutes of action this past Monday against the Grizzlies and put up a monster 41 FanDuel point performance (20 pts, 10 reb, 2 blk, 1 stl). Okafor is a very skilled offensive player and if he is going to see 30+ minutes of action, I think he’ll crush value against at his $5,500 price tag.
