DFS – Fantasy Basketball – NBA FanDuel Initial Lineup – 1/3/19
UPDATE (7:35 PM) - I keep going back and forth with Harden, however, I like getting the trio of DeRozan, Leonard, & Jokic in my lineup tonight! Image is updated and we're good to go! Good Luck!
We couldn’t get it done last night as our 287.80-point performance didn’t cut in in either the GPP’s or 50/50’s. We did get big games from Terry Rozier (43.1 points) & Anthony Davis (88.2 points) however, lackluster games by Bradley Beal (40.8 points), Justice Winslow (27.3 points), & Julius Randle (35.8 points) prevented us from cashing.
Let’s move on and get back on the wining track tonight as we look at tonight’s 3-game NBA slate that starts at 8:00pm.
I’m not in love with the high-cost options at the PG position tonight so I’m going with more value in San Antonio’s Derrick White & Toronto’s Fred VanVleet.
Derrick White is starting to live up to the potential that we were hearing about prior to season, before he missed the first 9 games of the season due to injury. White is averaging 11.2ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.4 bpg, & 2.2 spg over his last 5 games and has seen at least 28 minutes in each of those games. White looked outstanding agianst the Celtics this past Monday (22 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast, 2 blk, 1 stl) and I expect him to continue his recent run of strong play agianst Toronto tonight.
Fred VanVleet continues to see starter minutes with Kyle Lowry out and although he doesn’t have a high ceiling, the former Wichita State has been solid as over his last 5 games, he is averaging 11.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg, & 3.8 apg in 30.8 mpg. San Antonio hasn’t fared very well defending the PG position this season as they rank 18th in DEFF as VanVleet can get us 30+ FanDuel points on a solid night, I’ll take my chances with him as of now.
Please note - Kyle Lowry is currently doubtful for this game however, if we find out before tip-off that he is playing, I will probably adjust both picks.
The biggest question on the slate is whether are not you want to spend $13,000 on James Harden in what should be a solid matchup agianst the Golden State Warriors. I’m currently 50/50 on this as of right now, however, Golden State has done a decent job agianst Harden in the past and I just think this is too much salary to spend on Harden in a game that has a high blowout risk.
Instead of Harden, I’m rostering Bogdan Bogdanovic of the Kings in what should be a decent matchup agianst Denver. Bogdanovic looks fully healthy after an early season injury and over his last 5 games, is averaging 20.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.2 apg, & 1.2 spg in 30.8 mpg. Bogdanovic has put up 17.7 shots per game over his last three contests and I think if he has his outside shot falling, I think he can go for 40+ FanDuel points tonight.
At our other SG position, I’m going with Harden’s teammate in Austin Rivers as he is just seeing to many minutes to pass up on at this price. Rivers has scored in double-digits in all 4 of his games with the Rockets and is seeing an average of 35.3 mpg. I’m encouraged that Rivers took double-digit shots in each of his last two games and think there is potential in this matchup that he gets 30+ FanDuel points tonight.
At the SF position, I currently can’t pass up on the Raptors Kawhi Leonard who I image is going to put on a show tonight in his return to San Antonio. Leonard is having an outstanding first season with the Raptors as he is averaging 27.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.8 apg & 1.6 spg. Leonard is coming off a career high 45 points game vs. Utah this past Tuesday and as I expect him to take around 25 shots tonight, I’m going with Leonard.
Rudy Guy looks like he is unlikely to play tonight for the Spurs, which will make David Bertans a solid value play tonight. Bertans saw 31 minutes agianst the Celtics last Monday and has a great game as he put up 17 points, 5 rebounds, & 1 steal. Bertans has shown us the ability to get 25-30 FanDuel points when he sees the minutes and I’ll take my chances with him tonight at home.
I needed to get at least one Golden State Warrior in my lineup and I did that with Draymond Green. Green has struggled offensively on the season, however, still has been a solid contributor across the board as he is averaging 7.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 6.6 apg & 1.8 spg on the season. Green is a threat to drop a triple-double whenever he sees 30+ minutes and as his price is still below $7,000, I think he is a great play tonight.
This will be Paul Millsap’s third game back since his injury and as he put up an impressive 35.8 FanDuel point performance (16 pts, 9 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl) in just 22 minutes against New York on Tuesday, I think he could be a steal at his current price tonight agianst the Kings. Millsap posted 44.2+ FanDuel points in 4 of his 11 games prior to getting hurt in early December and as I think his minutes could get back near the thirties if the game stays close, I’m getting Millsap in my lineup.
Nikola Jokic is almost a must play tonight agianst the Sacramento after we just saw his former teammate, and the guy he replaced, Jusuf Nurkic, went off for 24 points, 23 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks, & 5 steals against the Kings this past Tuesday. Jokic also had a nice game on Tuesday, dropping a triple-double (19 points, 14 rebounds, 15 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal) agianst the Knicks and as I think he can do even better agianst the Kings tonight, I don’t think there is any way I’m away from Jokic tonight.
