UPDATED (7:06 PM) - Made some adjustments to the lineup. I decided to go with Lonzo Ball & Brandon Ingram as although we don't know if Kuzma is playing, both plays have solid upside in their match-up agianst the Knicks. We have Devin Booker & Paul George as out big name players and have Rozier, Brown, & Theis in the lineup as they should all have value with both Irving & Morris out. Image is updated. Good Luck!
DFS – Fantasy Basketball – NBA FanDuel Initial Lineup – 1/4/19
We fell just short of our GPP & 50/50’s last night with our 286.9-point performance as we just didn’t have enough exposure in the HOU/LAL game that went to OT. We went back and forth on Harden, and the showed us once again that he is unstoppable right now as he put up a monster total of 80.5 FanDuel points. We went with a DeRozan, Leonard, Jokic trio instead and although DeRozan & Jokic got us 50+ FanDuel points each, Leonard was disappointing with his 32.7 FanDuel point performance.
Let’s take a look at our initial lineup for tonight’s 10-game NBA slate that starts at 7:30pm.
At the PG position, I’m currently going with a couple of backup PG’s in Utah’s Dante Exum & Boston’s Terry Rozier.
We’ll have to keep a close eye out on Ricky Rubio’s status as he is currently a GTD with a foot injury as if Rubio doesn’t suit up tonight, Exum is almost a chalk play agianst the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his start against the Knicks last Saturday, Exum put up an impressive performance of 13 points & 13 assists which I think he could even surpass as Cleveland ranks 30th in both DEFF & DRPM vs. opposing PG’s. The good news about this injury situation is that the CLE/UTH game is the first on the slate so we should know in plenty of time if Rubio is playing or not and if we need to adjust off Exum.
Kyrie Irving has already been listed as out tonight for the Celtics and although Rozier’s price jumped up to $6,100, I think he is worth the investment tonight after we saw the reappearance of “Scary Terry” in the Celtics victory over Minnesota on Wednesday. In 32 minutes of action, Rozier put up a solid overall stat line of 16 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, & 1 block and as the Celtics might also be without Marcus Morris tonight, Rozier might have to take an even larger role in the Celtics offense against Dallas tonight.
The Phoenix Suns have one of the higher implied scoring totals on the slate, currently set at 113.5, and as love the matchup against the LA Clippers, I think Devin Booker is one of the top plays on the slate. In his last 5 games, Booker is averaging 28.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 8.0 apg, & 1.4 spg. Booker is shooting 47.5% from the field over his last 5 games and as this should be a fast-paced game, I think we can see Booker go off for a big night tonight.
It was only a week ago when we could get Josh Hart for only $3,700, however, with Hart taking full advantage of the extra minutes & usage while LeBron is out, his priced has jumped up to $6,400. Although this seems like a high price, I’m going with Hart today as he has a great match-up agianst the New York Knicks, and might see even more usage on the offensive end if Kyle Kuzma has to sit. Hart has averaged 15.7 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 2.7 apg & 2.0 spg over his last three games while seeing an average of 37.7 mpg in that span.
I bet Gordon Hayward wishes the Celtics could play Minnesota as although Hayward is averaging 11.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, & 3.5 apg on the season, in his two games against Minnesota this season, Hayward is averaging 32.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 6.5 apg, 1.0 spg. Hayward makes an intriguing option tonight, especially if Marcus Morris sits, as the Celtics will already be without Kyrie Irving. Hayward has struggled to find his role with the Celtics this season, however, as he should be more heavily involved in the offense tonight, I think he has great upside at $5,700.
Paul George has been unreal this season and it continued last Wednesday as he shook off a slow start agianst his home-town Lakers, and went off for a monster 37 points, 4 rebound, 2 assist, & 4 steal performance. George comes into this game averaging 30.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.3 apg, & 3.3 spg over his last 5 games and there is even room for improvement on those numbers as in that time span, he is shooting just 29.7% from the field. Portland hasn’t been anything special agianst SF’s on the season and I think George continues to put up MVP type numbers tonight.
The LA Clippers have an implied total of 117.5 points tonight and as I want to at least have a part of that action, I’m paying up for Montrezl Harrell tonight who has started to really pick it up as of late as he averaging 36.7 FanDuel points over his last 4 games which includes a monster 54.3 FanDuel point performance against Sacramento last week. Harrell is averaging 15.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.6 apg, & 1.4 bpg on the season and as the Suns rank just 26th in DRPM vs. opposing PF, I think Harrell could pile up stats in a hurry tonight.
At our other PF position, we’re going with the Knicks Kevin Knox in his match-up agianst the LA Lakers. I like any of the Knicks PF’s tonight (Knox, Vonleh, Kornet), however, I think Knox has the highest upside as the Knicks have him average 38.6 mpg over their last 5 games. Knox is only shooting 38.8% from the field in that time span however, is still averaging a solid 17.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.2 apg. Knox has put up 15+ shots in 4 of his last 5 games and I think if he has his shot falling tonight, he could put up 40+ FanDuel points.
Brook Lopez has become more of a stretch-center for the Bucks and it’s been paying off as of late as the 10-year veteran has hit 7 three-pointers in each of his last two games. Milwaukee has an implied scoring total of 122.3 total against the Hawks and although I’m concerned about a blow-out the upside of Lopez in this match-up at his price point is too good to pass up. Lopez is averaging 21.5 ppg, 3 rpg, & 1.5 bpg over his last 4 games and as I think he is going to give Lin/Dedmon trouble with his ability to hit from the outside, I think Lopez can get us 30-35 FanDuel points tonight.
