Zurich Classic of New Orleans: PGA Odds, Pick, Predictions, Dark Horses - 4/23/15

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans will take place this week, which means another chance to fill up our pockets. Here are some of the golfers you should consider putting on your card this week.

Dustin Johnson - Let’s start off with this week’s overall favorite in Dustin Johnson, who you can get with odds of +700 at the moment. While I usually shy away from the favorites, Johnson has a huge advantage being the biggest driver in the field, as he’ll need all of that power in the crazy weather that usually plays in this course. Dustin is also first in the PGA in strokes gained. If Dustin Johnson isn’t in serious contention to win his second event this season (Won the WGC-Cadillac Championship,) I’d be shocked. Johnson is worth a few bones with the odds he’s getting, favorite or not.

Justin Thomas - Onto one of the long shots, Justin Thomas is worth a look with odds of +4000. Thomas has seven Top 25 finishes in 25 events played and has only been cut five times. Thomas has one of the better birdie averages in this field and has above-average driving distance at 299.1. Also, seven of the last 10 winners at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans have been first time winners in the PGA. Here’s to hoping that trend continues with the odds we’re getting here.

John Peterson - Another first-time winner could be John Peterson, and he’s packing odds of +4000 as well. Peterson has missed the cut just once in 14 events and has five Top 25 finishes, which includes back-to-back Top 20 finishes. John Peterson is quietly proving that he belongs on the course and has given bettors decent value especially as of late. Also, Peterson is from Baton Rouge and attended LSU, so he’ll be right at home when he takes the course this week. I’ll gladly take a shot with Peterson in this spot and hope he gets his first win at home.

Rickie Fowler - Rickie Fowler hasn’t missed a cut in 17 straight events, which is already solid value with odds of +2500 to win this week. Fowler is coming off a 12th place finish at the Masters and has three Top 25 finishes this year overall. Rickie Fowler has just one PGA victory, which kinds of puts him in that rookie category that this course has been kind to in the past. Another reason to like Fowler this week is that he had a Top 10 finish at Zurich Classic of New Orleans back in 2012.

Tiger Woods - Did you watch the Masters? I’m not saying Tiger Woods is back just yet, but he clearly made progress towards putting fear in the rest of the field. I’ll keep taking shots with Tiger, especially with odds of +1400 this time around.
