The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks +112 / Chicago Cubs -122 --- Over/Under: 9
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs face off on Sunday at Chase Field as they close out their MLB series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks battled back and forth on Saturday but in the end they didn’t have enough to beat the Cubs. Tuffy Gosewich hit a home run and A.J. Poillock and Mark Trumbo had hits as the Diamondbacks scored six runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa allowed four hits and four runs while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Enrique Burgos took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Cubs start Jeremy Hellickson who has allowed 53 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 32 over 44 innings for a 1-3 record and a 5.52 ERA.
The Chicago Cubs took a tough loss on Friday but they battled back on Saturday handing Arizona a tough loss. Anthony Rizzo had two hits including a home run, Jorge Soler had two hits, and Kris Bryant added a hit as the Cubs scored nine runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta allowed seven hits and six runs, three earned, while striking out seven to not get a decision as Jake Motte got the win and Pedro Strop earned the save. For Sunday’s game the Cubs start Jason Hammel who has allowed 43 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 49 over 53.1 innings for a 3-1 record and a 2.70 ERA.
Arizona is 5-0 as a underdog, 2-6 in their last eight Sunday games, and 1-4 in Hellickson’s last five starts. Chicago is 9-3 in their last 12 games, 19-39 in their last 58 Sunday games, and 1-6 in Hammel’s last seven Sunday starts. Chicago is 1-6 in their last seven games against Arizona.
The total in this one is set at 8.0 and while I don’t love it my free pick is the under. My stronger pick is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
