The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks -125 / Colorado Rockies +105 --- Over/Under: 8
The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game two of their three game NL West division set from Chase Field in MLB action on Saturday.
The Colorado Rockies will look to keep their momentum going after taking game one on Friday by a final count of 11-10. Nolan Arenado and Raimel Tapia each led the way with four RBIs, with Tapia hitting a pinch-hit grand slam while Arenado went 3 for 5 with a two run homer. German Marquez, Carlos Gonzalez and Tony Wolters each had an RBI to round out Colorado’s scoring in the win. Charlie Blackmon went 2 for 5 and Ian Desmond added a double while Trevor Story chipped in a base hit as well to cap off the Rockies’ offense in the victory. Marquez gave up six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out six over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Scott Oberg got the win to improve to 5-0 this season while Adam Ottavino picked up his 3rd save of the year. Kyle Freeland will start game two and is 8-6 with a 3.11 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. In his career, Freeland is 1-2 with a 4.07 ERA and 19 strikeouts against Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will be looking to rebound after letting one slip away in Friday’s opener. Ketel Marte led the D-Backs with four RBIs, going 3 for 5 with a triple. A.J. Pollock, Jake Lamb and Alex Avila each added an RBI, with Pollock going a perfect 5 for 5 at the dish with a double. David Peralta went 4 for 5 at the plate with a double of his own, while Chris Owings chipped in a base knock to cap off Arizona’s offense in defeat. Robbie Ray gave up five runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Archie Bradley received his 3rd blown save of the season, taking the loss to fall to 2-2 this season. Zack Godley will start game two and is 11-6 with a 4.61 ERA and 108 strikeouts this season. In his career, Godley is 4-0 with a 2.76 ERA and 31 strikeouts against Colorado.
Colorado is 5-1 in their last 6 division matchups and 13-3 in their last 16 games overall while the under is 7-1 in Freeland’s last 8 road starts. Arizona is 6-1 in Godley’s last 7 starts and 3-9 in their last 12 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Arizona is 4-0 in Godley’s last 4 starts against Colorado.
I went back and forth on this game for a while, as these two teams come in evenly matched and have fireworks offensively on both sides. Godley has had a lot of success in his career against the Rockies, however he’s been prone to the occasional blowup. Freeland you could argue has been Colorado’s best starter so far this year, and has given up two runs or less in each of his last six starts. You could make a case for either one, but I think the value is with Colorado and the plus money on Saturday.
