MLB | Colorado Rockies (53-81) at Arizona Diamondbacks (56-78)

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies face off on Saturday in Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks don’t have a lot to play for at this point but that didn’t stop them from gutting out a win on Friday. Jacob Lamb hit a grand slam home run and David Peralta and Josh Collmenter had hits as the Diamondbacks scored five runs on three hits. Starting pitcher Josh Collmenter allowed two hits and a run while striking out five over 6.1 innings to not get a decision as Brad Ziegler got the win and Addison Reed earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Diamondbacks start Vidal Nuno who is still looking for his first win since being traded to Arizona. Since being traded Nuno has allowed 86 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 60 over 78 innings for a 2-5 record and a 5.42 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies let another game get away from them as they lost in Arizona on Friday. Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, and Drew Stubbs each had hits as the Rockies scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Christian Bergman allowed two hits and struck out five over 5.1 scoreless innings to not get a decision as Rex Brothers took the loss when Adam Ottavino blew the save. For Saturday’s game the Rockies start Tyler Matzek who won last time out to end a personal five game losing streak. For the season Matzek has allowed 95 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 60 over 84 innings for a 3-9 record and a 5.14 ERA.

Arizona is 6-1 as a home favorite, 3-9 in their last 12 games, and 1-8 in Nuno’s last nine starts. Colorado is 19-46 in their last 65 games, 12-40 in their last 52 road games, and 1-7 in Matzek’s last eight road starts. Colorado is 1-7 in their last eight games against Arizona.

Nuno’s numbers aren’t as bad as his record and he gets the win in this one.
