|Date & Time||Wednesday August 22, 2018, 9:40 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks -175 / Los Angeles Angels +165 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Los Angeles Angels and the Arizona Diamondbacks will be wrapping up their MLB set from Chase Field on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday opener, the Diamondbacks lost an early lead but got it back in walk-off fashion 5-4.
LA will be sending out RHP Odrisamer Despaigne on Wednesday. In his 24.1 innings and 2-1 mark this year, Despaigne has a 6.29 ERA with 21 Ks and nine walks.
Leading the Angels bats this year is Andrelton Simmons, who brought 127 hits, 57 runs and 56 RBI into this set. In the opener, Simmons had two hits and an RBI.
For Wednesday’s matchup, the D-Backs will be sending out Clay Buchholz. In his 73.0 innings and 2.47 ERA this year, Buchholz has a 6-2 mark and 61 Ks to his name.
Paul Goldschmidt is the leading Diamondbacks hitter this season, coming into this set on 137 hits, 78 runs, 28 homers and 71 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Goldschmidt posted a hit.
The Angels are 5-1 in their last six versus the NL West and 11-23 in their last 34 road games. LA is 1-5 in their last six versus a team with a winning record and 1-6 in their last seven versus a right-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series and 2-12 in their last 14 Wednesday games. Arizona is 5-1 in Buchholz’s last six starts and 4-1 in his last five starts with five days’ rest.
There’s not a lot of info to judge Despaigne on this season, but in his one Angels start this year he coughed up five earned on seven hits in 4.0 innings. As for Buchholz, he’s sitting on three straight quality starts, including a one-earned CG in San Diego his last time up. I’m going to keep rolling with Buchholz and take the Diamondbacks here.
