The Miami Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game one of a three game set in MLB action from Chase Field on Monday night.

The Miami Marlins will look to bounce back after losing their series rubber match with the Giants on Sunday, dropping game three by a final score of 2-1. Jon Berti went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Magneuris Sierra, Starlin Castro and Miguel Rojas each had a base hit to round out Miami’s offense as the Marlins mustered up just five hits as a team in the losing effort, none of which went for extra bases in the losing effort. Elieser Hernandez gave up one run on three hits while striking out nine over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jarlin Garcia took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year. Pablo Lopez will start game one and is 5-8 with a 4.97 ERA and 85 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lopez is 3-2 with a 4.13 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to bounce back and finish strong after losing seven of eight at arguably the worst time, dropping Sunday’s series finale against Cincinnati by a final score of 3-1. Wilmer Flores had an RBI while Ketel Marte went 2 for 4 and Josh Rojas added a base hit as the D-Backs had just four hits as a team in the loss with none of Arizona’s four hits went for extra bases in the loss. Zac Gallen took the loss, falling to 3-6 on the year after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five over 5.2 innings of work. Robbie Ray will start game one and is 12-8 with a 4.30 ERA and 208 strikeouts this season. In his career, Ray is 2-3 with a 2.43 ERA and 32 strikeouts against Miami.

Miami is 2-8 in Lopez’s last 10 starts and 28-74 in their last 102 road games while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 Monday games. Arizona is 1-7 in their last 8 games overall and 0-4 in their last 4 games against the NL East while the over is 4-1-2 in Ray’s last 7 starts against a team with a losing record. Miami is 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.

I’ve gone back and forth on this game, as neither side is worth backing in their current form as Miami can’t score once again and Arizona just keeps losing games at the worst possible time. Given all of that information, I’m still going to side with the over. Ray has allowed four runs in back-to-back home starts and is coming off of a start in which he allowed five runs in less than a full inning against the Dodgers. On the other hand, Lopez has an ERA just under eight on the road this season and has allowed four or more runs in three of his last four starts. I just don’t see betting value on either side, so the total is the only option for me in this one.
