|Date & Time||Thursday June 14, 2018, 9:40 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks -140 / New York Mets +130 --- Over/Under: 9
The New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks meet Thursday in MLB action at Chase Field.
The New York Mets could use a feel good victory here after losing 10 of their last 11 games. The Mets have score four runs in their last three games and three or less runs in nine straight games. The New York Mets have lost 14 of their last 16 games when scoring four or less runs. Asdrubal Cabrera leads the Mets with 67 hits and 36 RBI while Amed Rosario and Jay Bruce have combined for 94 hits and 35 RBI. Steven Matz gets the ball, and he is 2-4 with a 3.53 ERA and 54 strikeouts this season. Matz is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA and 11 strikeouts in his career against the Diamondbacks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks look to stay hot after winning nine of their last 12 games. The Diamondbacks have scored 26 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven straight games. The Arizona Diamondbacks have won 11 of their last 14 games when scoring more than three runs. David Peralta leads the Diamondbacks with 65 hits and 34 RBI while Paul Goldschmidt and Ketel Marte have combined for 121 hits and 56 RBI. Matt Koch gets the ball, and he is 4-3 with a 4.20 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. This will be Koch’s second career game against the Mets.
The Mets are 1-4 in their last 5 Thursday games, 0-5 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series and 3-7 in Matzs last 10 road starts. The Diamondbacks are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 1 of a series, 16-5 in their last 21 Thursday games and 3-8 in their last 11 vs. National League East. The Mets are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in Arizona, 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Matz has been pretty solid this season, especially as of late where he's allowed just five runs in his last 22 innings. Koch is coming off a game in which he was rocked at Coors Field, and he's allowed five or more runs overall in three of his last five starts. There's value with the Mets on the road and the plsu money, but I can't back a team that can't score, especially when Arizona is enjoying some of its best offense of the season over the last week. The New York Mets look like the same team from the last two years where consistent offense is like pulling teeth. I'll take the Diamondbacks and the reasonable price, even though the road team has the better pitcher in this game.
