The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks -130 / Pittsburgh Pirates +120 --- Over/Under: 9
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Arizona Diamondbacks duke it out in game two of their three game set from Chase Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back after losing seven of their last nine games, including a 9-5 loss in the series opener on Monday. Austin Meadows and Starling Marte each had two RBIs and a double, while Jordy Mercer also had two hits with a double of his own. Elias Diaz went 2 for 4 while David Freese chipped in a base knock of his own in the victory. Joe Musgrove gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Edgar Santana received his 2nd blown save of the year, while Kyle Crick took the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Trevor Williams will start game two and is 5-3 with a 4.18 ERA and 49 strikeouts this season. In his career, Williams is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 7 strikeouts against Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to keep their momentum going after rallying for a series opening win on Monday. Daniel Descalso and Jake Lamb each had three RBIs, with Lamb hitting a home run, while Descalso went 2 for 5 with a triple. Nick Ahmed added an RBI of his own, while Paul Goldschmidt, John Ryan Murphy, David Peralta, Ketel Marte and starting pitcher Patrick Corbin each had a base hit to cap off Arizona’s offense in the win. Corbin gave up all five runs, four earned, on six hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Archie Bradley ended up with the win to climb to 2-1 this season. Clay Buchholz will start game two and is 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. In his career, Buchholz is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA and 3 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 1-5 in their last 6 games against the NL West and 2-6 in their last 8 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 road games. Arizona is 5-1 in their last 6 home games and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. Pittsburgh is 13-6 in the last 19 meetings between these two teams and 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
Buchholz has been solid in returning to the majors with the D-Backs, giving up just five runs over those four starts, spanning 24 innings of work. The Diamondbacks have only won one of those starts, but two of those losses came when Arizona was mired in that horrible slump. Williams has been one of the better arms for Pittsburgh this season, but the Pirates are struggling mightily right now and are starting to look like the team we expected to see coming into the season. Arizona seems to have found their groove again, so I’ll lay the juice with the D-Backs for a second win in a row.
