Arizona Diamondbacks -131 / San Francisco Giants +121 O/U: 9.5
The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks will meet up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their series.
The Giants are coming off a set against the Dodgers. San Francisco took Monday’s game 3-2 but fell Tuesday and Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, the Giants nearly came back from a five-run deficit but lost 9-8.
For the Friday game, the Giants will be bringing out Jeff Samardzija as the starter. Across 72.2 innings and a 3-6 record so far, Samardzija has a 3.96 ERA with 61 Ks and 23 BBs.
Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they just finished up against the Rockies. Arizona dropped the first two games of that set 8-1 and 6-4, then on Thursday the Diamondbacks were defeated 6-4 in 10 innings.
On Friday, Arizona will be going with Taylor Clarke in the start. Clarke has a 1-2 record with a 5.34 ERA and 25 strikeouts to his credit this year.
The Giants are 5-0 in their last five in game one of a series and 4-10 in their last 14 Friday games. San Fran is 1-5 in Samardzija’s last six Friday starts and 4-11 in his last 15 road starts.
Meanwhile, the over is 3-0-1 in the Diamondbacks’ last four Friday games and 5-1 in Clarke’s last six starts overall. The over is also 4-1 in Clarke’s last five starts on grass.
Samardzija has been okay but not great in his last two starts, with seven earned in 10.1 innings on 16 combined hits. His record looks ugly lately, though; he’s 1-5 in his last six appearances.
As for Clarke, he’s 0-1 with an 8.40 ERA over his past four starts, so there’s not much to like there, either. I’m going with the Diamondbacks here but I’m staying away from a potentially ugly matchup.
