The Line: Houston Astros / Seattle Mariners --- Over/Under:
The Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners face off on Friday at Minute Maid Park for game two of their series on AL West teams.
The Houston Astros continued their strong play this season with a cone from behind win on Thursday. Jose Altuve had three hits and George Springer and Jason Castro were among those with hits as the Astros scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Scott Feldman allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out two over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Luke Gregerson got the win. For Friday’s game the Astros start Sam Deduno who has allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out seven over 9.1 innings for a 2.89 ERA.
The Seattle Mariners were unable to hold onto their early lead on Thursday as they fell to the Astros on the road. Austin Jackson had three hits and Robinson Cano and Seth Smith each had two hits as the Astros scored two runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher James Paxton allowed five hits and two runs while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Dominic Leone took the loss. For Friday’s game the Mariners start Roenis Elias who allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over 5.2 innings in his only start this year coming against the Twins.
Houston is 12-1 in their last 13 games, 7-0 following a win, and 5-0 against the AL West. Seattle is 5-11 following a loss, 8-3 in Friday games, and 4-10 in Elias last 14 starts. Seattle is 1-6 in the last seven meetings with Houston.
I have never had a lot of faith in Deduno so Seattle is my play here.
