The Line: Atlanta Braves -125 / Arizona Diamondbacks +115 --- Over/Under: 9
The Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves meet Friday in MLB action at SunTrust Park.
The Arizona Diamondbacks could use a victory here after losing nine of their last 13 games. The Diamondbacks have allowed 27 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in nine of their last 12 games. The Arizona Diamondbacks have lost 10 of their last 11 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Paul Goldschmidt leads the Diamondbacks with 98 hits and 52 RBI while David Peralta and Ketel Marte have combined for 172 hits and 87 RBI. Zack Godley gets the ball, and he is 10-6 with a 4.80 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. Godley is 0-1 with a 10.64 ERA and 12 strikeouts in his career against the Braves.
The Atlanta Braves could also use a win here after losing six of their last eight games. The Braves have scored 14 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in 10 of their last 15 games. The Atlanta Braves have won six of their last eight games when scoring more than three runs. Nick Markakis leads the Braves with 116 hits and 60 RBI while Ozzie Albies and Freddie Freeman have combined for 223 hits and 114 RBI. Anibal Sanchez gets the ball, and he is 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. Sanchez is 4-1 with a 4.47 ERA and 49 strikeouts in his career against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 12-3 in their last 15 road games, 5-2 in Godleys last 7 Friday starts and 5-1 in Godleys last 6 starts. The Braves are 2-10 in their last 12 Friday games, 2-5 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter and 7-2 in Sanchezs last 9 starts. The Diamondbacks are 8-20 in the last 28 meetings in Atlanta, 2-5 in the last 7 meetings and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Neither of these teams have played great baseball over the last week or so, but the Arizona Diamondbacks seem like their struggles will last longer, as they can't score and it's an issue that happens far too often. The young Atlanta Braves are bound to break out of their funk due to an offense that rakes, and it should help having a day off against a Arizona squad coming over from the west coast. In 25.2 innings at home this season, Sanchez has an ERA of 2.10 with an allowed batting average of .185. Godley has allowed just one run in his last seven innings, but he has an ERA of 5.82 with an allowed batting average of .276 on the road. Give me the Braves and the cheap price.
