Cincinnati Reds (32-45) at Atlanta Braves (43-32)
|Date & Time||Monday June 25, 2018, 7:35 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Atlanta Braves -156 / Cincinnati Reds +146 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Out at SunTrust Park on Monday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves will be kicking off their MLB set.
The Reds are fresh off a weekend series versus the Cubs. Cincinnati won the first three games of that set, then on Sunday they completed the sweep with an 8-6 win.
For Monday’s game, the Reds will be going with RHP Tyler Mahle. In his 81.0 innings and 6-6 record this year, Mahle has a 3.89 ERA with 76 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Braves this year is Scooter Gennett, who came out of the week with 92 hits, 39 runs, 13 homers and 51 RBI. On Sunday Gennett had a hit and a run.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re coming off a series versus the Orioles. Atlanta lost the first pair of games in that set, then on Sunday Atlanta took a 7-3 win.
Atlanta is rolling with Mike Foltynewicz on Monday for the start. Across 79.0 innings and a 5-4 mark this year, Foltynewicz has a 2.16 ERA with 94 Ks.
Nick Markakis leads the Braves this year in hitting, coming out of the week with 97 hits, 44 runs and 48 RBI. In the Sunday game, Markakis had two hits, a run and an RBI.
The Reds are 5-0 in Mahle’s last five starts and 0-4 in their last four Monday games. Cincinnati is also 5-1 in Mahle’s last six road starts and 2-5 in his last seven starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 4-14 in their last 18 Monday games and the over is 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series. The over is 25-11-3 in Atlanta’s last 39 Monday games and they’re 4-1 in their last five versus the NL Central.
Mahle has picked up wins in three out of his last four starts, and in his last appearance he logged two earned on five hits over six innings against the Tigers. This should be an interesting matchup on the mound, but this is a good spot for Atlanta to get themselves back into gear. I’m going to go with the Braves.
