Atlanta Braves -180 / Detroit Tigers +157 O/U: 8.5
The Detroit Tigers and the Atlanta Braves will meet up on the MLB diamond Sunday to finish up their series.
In the Friday opener, the Tigers powered out an 8-2 win. On Saturday, Atlanta evened it up with a 10-5 victory.
For Sunday’s game, the Tigers will be going with lefty Matthew Boyd for the start. In his 72.2 innings and 5-4 record this year, Boyd has a 2.85 ERA with 88 Ks and 15 BBs.
Detroit logged 11 hits and a pair of errors in the loss on Saturday. Leading the hitting for the Tigers was Christin Stewart with three hits, two RBI and a run.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Julio Teheran on Sunday. Over 66.1 innings and a 3-4 record so far, Teheran has a 3.53 ERA with 63 Ks and 33 BBs.
Atlanta also had 11 hits and two errors in the Saturday game, but did a nice job on the scoreboard. Nick Markakis managed a triple there and plated two runs.
The Tigers are 1-6 in their last seven in game three of a series and 7-3 in Boyd’s last 10 starts after a quality outing. Detroit is 8-18 in Boyd’s last 26 road starts and 2-6 in his last eight interleague starts.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series and 26-9 in their last 35 Sunday games. Atlanta is 4-1 in Teheran’s last five starts and 23-6 in his last 29 Sunday starts.
Boyd has been pretty darn great lately. He has one-two game span with a pair of losses during which he allowed seven earned in 10.1 innings on 12 hits, but aside from that he’s throwing up quality starts all over the place.
As for Teheran, he’s had a couple of hiccups here and there but has given up just two earned over his last three outings in 15.2 innings.
This should be a great pitching matchup and a close game. I’m going with Teheran and the Braves to eke one out, though.
