The Line: Atlanta Braves / Los Angeles Dodgers --- Over/Under:
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves meet Sunday in game three of the MLB NLDS at SunTrust Park.
The Los Angeles Dodgers can advance to their third straight NLCS with a victory here. The Dodgers pitching staff continues to be impressive, as they haven’t allowed a single run in this series and have allowed a combined two runs in their last 36 innings. It’s been a complete clinic for the Los Angeles Dodgers up to this point, but we’ll see how well things continue when they pack their bags for the other side of the country. Joc Pederson leads the Dodgers with two hits and one RBI while Justin Turner and Manny Machado have combined for three hits and two RBI. Walker Buehler gets the ball, and he is 8-5 with a 2.62 ERA and 151 strikeouts this season. This will be Buehler’s second career game against the Braves. Buehler has zero career postseason experience.
The Atlanta Braves need a victory to save their season and force a game four on Monday. The Braves have scored a combined one run in their last four games and have been held to two or less runs in seven of their last nine games. The Atlanta Braves are in the postseason because of their explosive offense, but if it’s not going to show up here, it’s going to be an early exit for this young squad. There’s really not much left to say about these Braves. Heat the bats up or get ready for next season. Ronald Acuna Jr. leads the Braves with two hits while Ender Inciarte and Freddie Freeman have combined for three hits. Kevin Gausman gets the ball, and he is 10-11 with a 3.92 ERA and 148 strikeouts this season. This will be Gausman's second career game against the Dodgers. Gausman is 0-0 with a 1.13 ERA and seven strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Dodgers are 37-14 in their last 51 games following an off day, 12-5 in their last 17 playoff games and 5-2 in Buehlers last 7 starts. The Braves are 7-20 in their last 27 playoff games, 5-0 in Gausmans last 5 home starts and 7-2 in Gausmans last 9 starts. The Dodgers are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Atlanta, 27-10 in the last 37 meetings and the under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.
I really want to see the Braves win, as more games is always fun and provides more chances to make money. I even gave the Braves a chance Friday night as a big underdog. Nope. But we've seen nothing from the Braves over the last week that suggests they're ready for the moment. A Braves offense that was on fire much of the year can't score, and it's been more than just this series. Buehler has given up a combined four runs in his last 26.2 innings and is allowing a .193 batting average on the season. Gausman had an ERA of 4.23 in the month of September and isn't the toughest pitcher in the world to hit, as he's allowing a .264 batting average. It feels like the Braves are a year ahead of schedule, and we'll be able to take them a bit more serious once they get more experience under them. The Dodgers are likely sweeping their way to their third straight NLCS.
