The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves will meet up in MLB activity on Saturday to continue their series.

In the Friday opener, the Mets scored four runs in the fourth inning and rode the wave to a 6-2 victory.

For Saturday’s game, the Mets will be bringing out LHP Jason Vargas for the start. In his 6.0 innings so far this year, Vargas is 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA, three Ks and one BB.

Offensively in the Friday matchup, New York’s Brandon Nimmo had a great night with his two-run homer alongside a double, three hits and two runs. Jeff McNeil also provided two RBI and a run for the Mets there.

Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Sean Newcomb in the start Saturday. Over 11.0 innings without a decision so far, Newcomb has a nice 1.64 ERA with five Ks and six walks.

In the loss on Friday, the Braves’ Ronald Acuna logged a double and drove in a run. Josh Donaldson also doubled for Atlanta in that one and plated a run as well.

The Mets are 7-2 in their last nine Saturday games and 4-0 in Vargas’ last four starts. New York is 4-1 in Vargas’ last five road starts and 4-1 in his last five starts versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 1-4 in their last five Saturday games and 2-6 in Newcomb’s last eight Saturday starts. Atlanta is 1-4 in Newcomb’s last five starts versus a team with a winning record and the under is 12-2 in their last 14 Saturday games.

Vargas’ initial start this season went fairly well (two earned; 5.0 innings; eight hits) but he stumbled in a relief appearance April 9 with four hits and four earned in just one inning.

As for Newcomb, he’s been great aside from the relatively low K numbers and high walks, but we’ll see how that goes. In any case, I can’t think of too many reasons to pick against the Braves here.
