MLB | Oakland Athletics (73-47) at Atlanta Braves (61-59)

The Atlanta Braves and the Oakland Athletics face off on Friday at Turner Field for game one of their interleague series.

The Atlanta Braves are sinking in the NL East standings and they are on the outside looking in at the National League Wildcard race. The Braves are 34-28 at home, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a loss on Thursday. As a team the Braves are hitting .244 with Freddie Freeman hitting .294, Justin Upton hitting .281, and Chris Johnson hitting .271. The Atlanta pitching staff has an ERA of 3.42 with the starters at 3.49 and the bullpen at 3.25. For game one against the A’s the braves start Alex Wood who got the win in his last start. For the season Wood has allowed 111 hits and 40 earned runs while striking out 119 over 117 innings for a 8-9 record and a 3.08 ERA.

The Oakland A’s have watched their lead shrink in the AL West to two games but they have the best overall record in baseball. The A’s are 33-27 on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two. As a team Oakland is hitting .251 with Stephen Vogt hitting .325, Brandon Moss hitting .256, and Josh Donaldson hitting .253. The A’s pitching staff has an ERA of 3.20 with the starters at 3.34 and the bullpen at 2.91. For game one against the Braves the A’s start Jason Hammel who has a no decision and a win in his last two starts. Since being traded to Oakland Hammel has allowed 37 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 19 over 29 innings for a 1-4 record and a 5.90 ERA.

Atlanta is 4-10 in their last 14 interleague games, 2-7 as a favorite, and 2-5 in Wood’s last seven starts. Oakland is 4-0 against the NL East, 2-5 in game one of a series, and 1-5 in Hammel’s last six starts.

The Braves have fallen apart at the seams and I expect Oakland to knock them around here as well.
