The Line: Atlanta Braves -131 / Philadelphia Phillies +121 --- Over/Under: 9
Out at SunTrust Park on Saturday evening, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves will be matching up once again in their MLB series.
In Game 1 of this series on opening day, the Braves secured a rousing 8-5 walk-off win. On Friday, we had a marathon 11-inning affair that ended in a 5-4 Philly victory.
For the Saturday game, the Phillies will be bringing out RHP Vincent Velasquez. Last season in 72.0 innings, Velasquez managed a 2-7 record with a 5.12 ERA and 41 earned on 74 hits.
In the early-going of the season, Philadelphia’s Cesar Hernandez led the way on two hits with one solo homer on Thursday, then on Friday Carlos Santana was the big contributor with three RBI and a homer.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Brandon McCarthy on Friday. McCarthy is coming off a 3.98 ERA last season with a 6-4 record, 89 hits and 43 runs in 92.2 innings pitched.
In the opener on Thursday, Nick Markakis was the big hero with a walk-off three-run homer—his only hit of the evening. In Friday’s game, Markakis had one hit while Freddie Freeman managed a run and three walks.
The Phillies are 4-0 in their last four in game three of a series and 5-12 in their last 17 Saturday games. Philly is also 6-18 in Velasquez’s last 24 starts and 1-4 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 2-6 in their last eight Saturday games and 1-5 in the last six in game three of a series. The over is 7-1-1 in Atlanta’s last nine Saturday games and the under is 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series.
This was set to be something of a sketchy series right from the start, and we’ve seen some of that uncertainty rear its head already. Looking at this matchup however, I can’t find much trust for Velasquez to keep Philly in it. I”m going to go with the Braves here.
