MLB | Philadelphia Phillies (9-17) at Atlanta Braves (12-13)

The Philadelphia Phillies match up with the Atlanta Braves in game two of their series.

Not much has gone favorably for the Philadelphia Phillies so a few wins is a big deal. The Phillies have won consecutive games with a three run first and great pitching leading the way. Starter Aaron Harang turned in another sparkling performance with a run scored on five hits over six frames to up his record to 3-2. The bats put everything together as well with a 14 hit, three walk attack that saw Jeff Francoeur going 4-5 with a pair of RBI’s with a run while Carlos Ruiz knocked in two more with Darin Ruf scoring twice. Chad Billingsley makes his return to the mound versus Atlanta after missing 2014 with elbow problems. Billingsley only made two starts in 2013 with his last full season coming in 2012 when he made 25 starts.

The Atlanta Braves got off to a surprisingly good start but things have gradually been slowing and that trend continued in Monday’ defeat at the hands of visiting Philadelphia.  Neither the arms or the bats were on the same page Monday with starter Alex Wood giving up three runs on nine hits and a pair of base on balls through 4.1 innings  to fall to 1-2. Five relievers kept Atlanta within striking distance but the bats eight hits and four walks were minus the big hit. Nick Markakis and Freddie Freeman drove in runs with three players posting two hits each. The Braves are hoping Shelby Miller continues his torrid work on the mound when he opposes visiting Philadelphia. Miller has five starts under his belt and has not allowed more then two runs.

Philadelphia are 7-19 in their last 26 road games. The over is 11-3-1 in Atlanta’s last 15 home games while the Braves are  5-16 in their last 21 Tuesday games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games as a favorite. Miller has been the Braves best starter so he could win with little support but I wouldn’t lay the chalk with this team because they are not that good…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
