Atlanta Braves -145 / Pittsburgh Pirates +135 O/U: 9.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves will open up their MLB set on Monday.
Pittsburgh just finished up a series versus the Brewers. The Pirates fell 10-4 Friday and 5-3 Saturday in that set. In the Sunday finale, Pittsburgh dropped another one 5-2.
For the Monday game, the Pirates will be sending out Joe Musgrove in the start. Over 73.0 innings and a 4-6 mark so far, Musgrove has a 4.44 ERA with 57 Ks and 20 BBs.
Over on the Braves’ side, they just finished up against the Marlins. Atlanta got wins 7-1 and 1-0 in the first two games of that series, then on Sunday the Braves came back from a 4-1 deficit to eventually prevail 7-6 in 12 innings.
For the Monday game, the Braves will be sending out Kevin Gausman as the starter. Gausman has a 2-5 record this year with a 6.15 ERA and 60 Ks.
The Pirates are 6-2 in their last eight versus the NL East and 1-5 in their last six Monday games. Pittsburgh is 1-8 in their last nine in game one of a series and 5-2 in Musgrove’s last seven starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 4-1 in their last five Monday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series. The over is 3-0-1 in Atlanta’s last four in game one of a series and the under is 3-1-2 in their last six Monday games.
This outing will be telling for both starters. Musgrove went eight innings against the Braves his last time up, registering a win and a quality start while yielding just five hits.
As for Gausman, he’s got to show his stuff here after giving up 15 earned over his last two starts (and Dallas Keuchel lurking).
This is something of a coin-flip game that depends on how the SPs look, but I’m going with Musgrove and the Pirates here.
