Atlanta Braves -145 / Pittsburgh Pirates +125
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves meet in game two of their four game set from SunTrust Park in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to rebound and snap a four game losing streak after a 13-7 loss in game one on Monday. Starling Marte went 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs while Corey Dickerson had two RBIs in a pinch-hit capacity and Josh Bell added an RBI of his own to round out Pittsburgh’s scoring as a team in the loss. Elias Diaz had a double while Kevin Newman, Colin Moran, Gregory Polanco and Melky Cabrera each had base hits as well in the losing effort. Alex McRae took the loss in relief, falling to 0-2 on the year after allowing eight runs, six earned, on six hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings of work. Chris Archer will start game two and is 3-5 with a 5.20 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season. In his career, Archer is 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Atlanta.
The Atlanta Braves will look to continue their recent stretch, winning four in a row after Monday’s series opening victory. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Nick Markakis each had a home run and four RBIs while Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies each had a home run and two RBIs with Albies hitting a pair of solo home runs. Johan Camargo went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI to round out Atlanta’s scoring in the win while Dansby Swanson went 2 for 3 with a double. Kevin Gausman gave up four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out four over just 2.1 innings, not factoring in the decision. Sean Newcomb picked up the win by throwing 4.2 innings of scoreless relief to improve to 1-0 this season. Jacob Webb closed out the 9th for his 2nd save of the year. Mike Foltynewicz will start game two and is 1-5 with a 5.89 ERA and 37 strikeouts this season. In his career, Foltynewicz is 1-4 with a 6.26 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 2-6 in their last 8 games overall and 1-7 in Archer’s last 8 road starts while the over is 11-4 in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record. Atlanta is 1-9 in Foltynewicz’s last 10 starts and 6-2 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 home games. Atlanta is 1-4 in Foltynewicz’s last 5 starts against Pittsburgh.
I’ve gone back and forth on this game, as Foltynewicz has struggled in his career against the Pirates and hasn’t been too easy to trust this season. However, Archer has struggled in his own right as of late and these two teams are heading in completely different directions with Pittsburgh losing six of their last eight games while Atlanta has won six of eight. I think the recent form of these two teams is enough to swing the lean towards Atlanta, so I’ll lay the juice with the Braves in this spot.
