Atlanta Braves -205 / Pittsburgh Pirates +185 -- O/U: 9
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves meet in game three of their four game set in MLB action from SunTrust Park on Wednesday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will be out for a win to snap their five game losing streak after a rain-shortened 7-5 loss to Atlanta in game two on Tuesday. Josh Bell had two RBIs while Colin Moran and Bryan Reynolds each had an RBI with Reynolds tripling while Moran had a double. Starling Marte added an RBi of his own to round out Pittsburgh’s scoring as a team in the loss. Kevin Newman went 3 for 4 at the dish while Corey Dickerson, Jung Ho Kang and Adam Frazier each had a base hit as well in the defeat. Chris Archer took the loss, falling to 3-6 on the year after allowing all seven runs on eight hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Mitch Keller will start game three and is 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. This will be Keller’s first career start against Atlanta.
The Atlanta Braves will look to build on their five game winning streak after their game two victory on Tuesday. Brian McCann had a pair of home runs and four RBIs while Josh Donaldson, Nick Markakis and Ozzie Albies each had a solo home run in the winning effort. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Dansby Swanson each went 2 for 4 while Austin Riley added a base hit as well in the victory. Mike Foltynewicz gave up four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out five over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Touki Toussaint got the win to improve to 4-0 this season while Anthony Swarzak picked up his 1st save of the year. Mike Soroka will start game three and is 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA and 57 strikeouts this season. This will be Soroka’s first career start against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 0-5 in their last 5 games overall and 0-5 in their last 5 road games while the under is 18-7-2 in their last 27 games against the NL East. Atlanta is 8-0 in Soroka’s last 8 starts against a team with a losing record and 5-0 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 9-2-1 in their last 12 games overall. Pittsburgh is 3-8 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 3-8 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams in Atlanta.
Keller didn’t look great in his major league debut, giving up six runs in four innings to Cincinnati, and sending him to the mound here isn’t going to help end Pittsburgh’s losing skid I don’t think. Soroka is back to where he left off, giving up one run in eight innings in his last start and I just don’t think Keller has the stuff to keep pace here, so I’ll side with Atlanta to keep their run going and to cut down the heavy juice, I’ll side with the Braves on the RL given the pitching advantage.
