|Date & Time||Friday August 31, 2018, 7:35 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Atlanta Braves -109 / Pittsburgh Pirates -101 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates will take on the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park on Friday as they kick off their weekend MLB set.
The Pirates just finished up a series against the Cardinals. After splitting the first two games, on Thursday Pittsburgh was shut out 5-0.
For Friday’s game, the Pirates will be bringing out Jameson Taillon for the start. In his 152.0 innings and 10-9 mark this year, Taillon has a 3.49 ERA with 139 Ks and 39 BBS.
Corey Dickerson leads the Pirates in hitting this year, coming into the Cards finale with 128 hits, 53 runs, 11 homers and 46 RBI. On Thursday, Dickerson struck out in a pinch-hit role and Starling Marte logged three hits.
Over on the Braves’ side, they just played a one-off game versus the Cubs on Thursday. In that game Atlanta fell 5-4 in a tough one.
For Friday’s outing, the Braves will be going with Anibal Sanchez. Across 103.1 innings and a 6-5 mark, Sanchez has a 3.05 ERA with 100 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Braves this year is Nick Markakis, who entered Thursday on 160 hits, 71 runs, 14 homers and 83 RBI. In the Cubs game, Yarkakis whiffed 0-for-4.
The Pirates are 0-5 in their last five in game one of a series and 7-0 in Taillon’s last seven Friday starts. Pittsburgh is also 4-1 in Taillon’s last five starts and 7-2 in his last nine road starts.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series and 5-14 in their last 19 Friday games. The over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Atlanta between these two teams, and the Braves are 5-2 in the last seven meetings.
Looking at Taillon’s recent starts, he’s been pitching really well. Across his last eight outings, he’s got seven quality starts, one complete game and just two instances where he allowed all of three earned runs. Even with Sanchez doing well this year I’m going to go with Taillon to keep it going here and take the Pirates.
