Atlanta Braves -137 / San Diego Padres +127 O/U: 9
The San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves will meet up on the MLB diamond Monday to kick off their series.
San Diego is fresh off a weekend set versus the Nationals. The Padres took the first two game of that series, then on Sunday San Diego scored six runs in the first three innings but ultimately fell 7-6 as they allowed the Nats to chip away over 11 innings.
In the Monday game, the Padres will be bringing out Nick Margevicius for the starting role. In his 25.0 innings and 2-2 mark this season, Margevicius has a 3.60 ERA with 23 Ks and seven walks.
Over on the Braves’ side, they just finished up against the Rockies. Atlanta fell in the first two games of that set 8-4 and 9-5, then on Sunday the Braves eked out an 8-7 victory thanks to three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
For Monday’s start, Atlanta is going with Mike Soroka on the hill. So far this year, Soroka has a 1-1 record with a 1.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
The Padres are 9-3 in their last 12 in game one of a series and 5-13 in their last 18 Monday games. The over is 16-6-1 in the Padres last 23 Monday games and 5-2-1 in their last eight in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the over is 15-5-1 in the Braves’ last 21 in game one of a series and they’re 10-3 in their last 13 Monday games. Atlanta is also 0-5 in their last five in game one of a series.
It’s a pretty small sample size, but Margevicius has kicked things off pretty well. Aside from is five earned in 4.0 innings in a loss versus Colorado April 16, Margevicius has five earned total in 21.0 innings on 13 hits.
There’s not much so far this year to go on with Soroka either, so this matchup could give us a lot of different outcomes. As it stands, I like the Padres to steal a road win here.
