MLB | San Diego Padres (32-37) at Atlanta Braves (39-28)
Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Down at SunTrust Park on Thursday, the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves will be kicking off their MLB set.

The Padres are coming off a series versus the Cardinals. San Diego split the first pair of games, then on Wednesday got the series with a win 4-2.

For Thursday’s game the Padres will be going with RHP Tyson Ross. In his 76.0 innings and 5-3 record this year, Ross has a 3.43 ERA with 78 Ks and 28 BBs.

Heading into the Cards finale, Jose Pirela led the team on 72 hits, 37 runs and 19 RBI. In the Wednesday game Pirela sat and Freddy Galvis put up two RBI with a hit.

Over on the Braves’ side, they’re fresh off a set against the Mets. Atlanta won 8-2 on Tuesday then on Wednesday the Braves took the shutout 2-0.

Atlanta will be sending out Anibal Sanchez for the start Thursday. Over 30.1 innings and a 2-0 record this season, Sanchez has a 2.37 ERA with 26 Ks.

Coming into Wednesday, Nick Markakis led the Braves on 88 hits, 41 runs and 44 RBI. In the Mets finale, Markakis went 0-for-4.

The Padres are 17-35 in their last 52 in game one of a series and 1-5 in their last six Thursday games. San Diego is also 4-0 in Ross’ last four road starts and 4-1 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 6-0 in their last six Thursday games and 2-7 in their last nine versus the NL West. The over is 5-1 in the Braves’ last six Thursday games and 5-1 in their last six versus the NL West.

After a run of three straight quality starts, Ross has given up eight earned combined in his last three outings. Ross comes in here with a fresh arm and six straight Padres wins in his last six appearances, but I have to side with Sanchez and the Braves here.

Atlanta Braves -129
