Atlanta Braves -105 / St. Louis Cardinals -105 O/U: 9.5
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves will match up to finish their MLB series on Thursday.
The Cardinals pummeled Atlanta 14-3 in the Tuesday opener of this set, then on Wednesday the Braves got some revenge with a 4-0 shutout.
For Thursday’s game, the Cardinals will be sending out Adam Wainwright in the start. Over his 43.1 innings and 3-3 record this year, Wainwright has a 4.15 ERA with 37 Ks and 14 BBs.
St. Louis was out-hit by the Braves 6-3 on Wednesday, with Paul DeJong, Kolton Wong and Jose Martinez each getting a knock.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Julio Teheran on Thursday. Through 50.2 innings and a 2-4 mark so far, Teheran has a 4.26 ERA with 52 Ks and 22 BBs.
The Braves’ offense spread their six hits Wednesday among six different players. The biggest hit of the night came courtesy of Charlie Culberson, who hit a two-run shot in the eighth.
The Cardinals are 7-3 in their last 10 in game three of a series and 50-22 in Wainwright’s last 72 starts in game three of a series. The over is 4-1 in the Cardinals’ last five Thursday games and the under is 5-1-1 in Wainwright’s last seven starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 5-2 in Teheran’s last seven home starts and 0-4 in his last four Thursday starts. Atlanta is 4-1 in the last five in game three of a series and 0-5 in their last five Thursday games.
Wainwright has been pretty solid over his last four games, aside from a six-earned effort in 5.0 innings on five hits at Wrigley. In the other three, he’s given up just four earned runs in 19.1 innings.
As for Teheran, he’s got three quality starts in his last four tries, and has given up just one earned over his last 12.0 innings in two starts.
This should be a fun pitching battle, but I’m giving a slight edge to Wainwright in what should be a close game. I’ll go Cards.
