MLB | Washington Nationals (3-0) at Atlanta Braves (2-1)

The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves meet Monday in MLB action at SunTrust Park.

The Washington Nationals look to improve to 4-0 on the season when they play their fourth straight road game. The Nationals have caught fire offensively, producing 19 runs and 22 hits in their last two games. The Washington Nationals have now won seven of their last nine regular season games when scoring at least three runs. Adam Eaton leads the Nats with eight hits and five RBI while Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon have combined for seven hits and six RBI. Tanner Roark gets the ball, and he was 13-11 with a 4.67 ERA and 166 strikeouts last season. Roark is 6-3 with a 2.88 ERA and 65 strikeouts in his career against the Braves.

The Atlanta Braves look for a statement victory after a 2-1 start to the season. The Braves are coming off a 15-run performance Sunday and have scored at least four runs in every game this season. The Atlanta Braves had their offensive issues in the past, but they have won 12 of their last 14 games when scoring more than three runs. Ryan Flaherty leads the Braves with seven hits and one RBI while Ender Inciarte and Dansby Swanson have combined for 10 hits and seven RBI. Sean Newcomb gets the ball, and he was 4-9 with a 4.32 ERA and 108 strikeouts last season. This will be Newcomb’s second career game against the Nationals.

The Nationals are 7-1 in their last 8 Monday games, 14-6 in their last 20 during game 1 of a series and 11-5 in their last 16 road games. The Braves are 6-2 in their last 8 during game 1 of a series, 3-7 in their last 10 vs. National League East and 4-1 in Newcombs last 5 home starts. The Nationals are 13-6 in the last 19 meetings in Atlanta, 39-17 in the last 56 meetings and the over is 23-10 in the last 33 meetings.

Newcomb wasn't great last season, but neither was Roark, who had an ERA over four on the road last season and is allowing a .277 batting average in 141 at bats against current Braves players. The Braves are also red hot offensively and were able to enjoy a day off while the Nats have to play another road series. There's value with the Braves at home and the plus money.
