Washington Nationals (32-23) at Atlanta Braves (33-23)
|Date & Time||Saturday June 2, 2018, 4:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Atlanta Braves +105 / Washington Nationals -115 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up Saturday from SunTrust Park, the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Thursday opener, the Braves managed a 4-2 win. On Friday, the Braves did it again with a 4-0 victory.
For the Saturday game, the Nationals will be rolling out lefty Gio Gonzalez. In his 64.1 innings and 6-2 record this year, Gonzalez has a 2.10 ERA with 63 Ks and 28 BBs.
Leading the way for the Nationals in hitting this year is Trea Turner, with 59 hits, 32 runs and 22 RBI heading into game two. On Friday, Turner put up one hit.
Over on the Braves side, they’re going with Brandon McCarthy on Saturday. Across 57.1 innings and a 5-2 record this year, McCarthy has a 5.02 ERA with 45 Ks and 19 BBs.
Nick Markakis is the top hitter for the Braves this season, with 74 hits, 34 runs and 38 RBI entering game two. In the Friday game, Markakis had a hit and a run.
The Nationals are 7-3 in their last 10 in game three of a series and 2-5 in their last seven Saturday games. Washington is also 4-1 in Gonzalez’s last five starts and 3-7 in his last 10 Saturday starts.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 14-2 in their last 16 in game three of a series and 4-0 in McCarthy’s last four starts with four days’ rest. Atlanta is also 5-2 in McCarthy’s last seven starts versus the NL East and 6-1 in his last seven starts versus a team with a winning record.
Gonzalez has been pretty darn fierce this season, and he’s got three quality starts in his last four games. As for McCarthy, he’s got two good starts in his last five, and three where he allowed at least five earned. With Gonzalez pitching the way he is, I have to take the Nationals right now.
