The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves meet in game two of their four game NL East division set from SunTrust Park on Friday night.
The Washington Nationals will look to bounce back after dropping game one on Thursday by a final score of 4-2. Victor Robles had a home run and both of Washington’s RBIs while Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto each had a base hit to finish off Washington’s offense as the Nationals had just three hits in the losing effort with the rest of the team batting 0 for 18 with 7 strikeouts. Stephen Strasburg took the loss, falling to 16-6 on the year after allowing three runs on four hits while walking four and striking out seven over six innings of work. Patrick Corbin will start game two and is 11-6 with a 3.19 ERA and 201 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 6-1 with a 1.96 ERA and 58 strikeouts against Atlanta.
The Atlanta Braves will look to get one step closer to a division title after a win in game one on Thursday pushed their winning streak to seven games. Ronald Acuna Jr. went 2 for 4 with a solo home run while Ozzie Albies also went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann each had an RBI to finish off Atlanta’s offense as the Braves had just six hits as a team in the win. Max Fried got the win to improve his record to 16-4 on the year after throwing seven shutout innings, giving up just one hit while striking out nine. Dallas Keuchel will start game two and is 6-5 with a 3.72 ERA and 70 strikeouts this season. In his career, Keuchel is 0-3 with a 5.08 ERA and 17 strikeouts against Washington.
Washington is 5-1 in their last 6 road games and 7-2 in Corbin’s last 9 division starts while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Atlanta is 4-0 in Keuchel’s last 4 starts and 31-12 in their last 43 home games while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 division games. The under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Keuchel’s had some issues in his career against Washington and Corbin’s been a solid arm for Washington. And while Corbin has solid career numbers against Atlanta, I feel that those numbers are a bit skewed, as Corbin has gone 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in three career starts at SunTrust Park. Corbin’s also not as good on the road as he is at home, where his ERA more than doubles and he has a .500 record at 4-4 in 14 starts away from home this season. Keuchel’s had his ups and downs, but he’s a better pitcher at home and we’re also getting the hotter team with the cheaper price at near even money. I’ll take my chances with the Braves for another win on Friday.
