Baltimore Orioles +170 / Boston Red Sox -180
The Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles will meet up on the MLB diamond to continue their series Tuesday.
In the Monday game one of this set, the Orioles tallied four runs int he second inning (thanks to a grand slam) and hung on for a nice 4-1 victory.
For Tuesday’s game, the Sox will be sending out Hector Velazquez in the start. Over an 0-2 record so far, Velazquez has a 3.72 ERA with 19 strikeouts to his credit.
Boston couldn’t get much going on offense in the Monday loss. Eduardo Nunez managed a double with an RBI in that one, and Christian Velazquez logged two hits with a run.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they’re going with David Hess in the start Tuesday. In his 30.1 innings and 1-4 record so far this season, Hess has a 5.34 ERA with 22 Ks and nine walks.
One big swing helped the Orioles to a victory on Monday, and that one came courtesy of Jonathan Villar, who hit a grand slam in the second inning for his fourth homer of the year.
The Red Sox are 39-17 in their last 56 Tuesday games and the under is 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series. Boston is 6-2 in their last eight road games and 6-2 in their last eight overall.
The Orioles are 17-36 in their last 53 Tuesday games and 21-48 in their last 69 in game two of a series. Baltimore is 2-6 in Hess’ last eight home starts and 4-18 in his last 22 starts.
Hess is coming off a brief demotion to the bullpen last week, and here he’s taking over for Alex Cobb, who is dealing with an ailing back.
Since he shut out Toronto over 6.1 innings in his first start, Hess hasn’t been able to record a win. The good news is that Hess logged 4.1 innings with just one earned against the White Sox his last time out, but prior to that he was on a four-game losing streak.
I can’t find a lot of reasons to take the Orioles here, so I’m going Red Sox for the win.
