Out at Oriole Park on Monday, the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Red Sox are coming off a weekend “laundry series” against the White Sox. Boston split the first two games, then on Sunday the Red Sox lost 5-2.
For the Monday game, the Red Sox will be going with Steven Wright. In his 23.0 innings and 2-0 record this year, Wright has a 1.57 ERA with 20 Ks and 13 BBs.
JD Martinez is the top Sox hitter on the year with 74 hits, 41 runs, 21 homers and 54 RBI coming out of the week. On Sunday, Martinez had a hit and a run.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they just finished up against the Blue Jays. Baltimore lost the first three games of that set, then on Sunday the Orioles fell 13-3.
Baltimore is sending out Dylan Bundy on Monday. In his 75.2 innings and 4-7 record this year, Bundy has a 4.04 ERA with 88 Ks.
Manny Machado leads the Orioles in hitting this year with 76 hits, 32 runs, 18 homers and 50 RBI entering this week. In the Jays finale, Machado had one hit.
The Red Sox are 5-2 in their last seven in game one of a series and 35-16 in their last 51 versus the AL East. Boston is 7-2 in Wright’s last nine starts versus the AL East and 5-2 in his last seven starts in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 9-21 in their last 30 in game one of a series and 1-7 in their last eight Monday games. The under is 8-0 in the O’s last eight in game one of a series and 4-1 in their last five Monday games.
Wright has ben pretty solid this year, and in his last start he put up zero earned on two hits in 7.0 innings. Bundy just put up a nice start himself, with seven shutout innings against the Mets. Still, all things considered, this is the Red Sox’ game to take.
