The Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles will match up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their series.

The Red Sox are coming off a set versus the Rangers this week. Boston fell in the first two games, then got a 4-3 win Wednesday. On Thursday, the Sox won 7-6.

For the Friday game, the Sox will be sending out Eduardo Rodriguez in the start. Across his 72.0 innings and 6-4 mark this year, Rodriguez has a 5.00 ERA with 80 Ks and 22 BBs.

Over on the Orioles’ side, they just finished up against the Blue Jays. Baltimore split the first two games of that set, then on Thursday Baltimore fell 12-3.

In Friday’s matchup, the Orioles will be sending out Andrew Cashner for the start. In 70.1 innings and a 6-2 record so far, Cashner has a 4.73 ERA with 51 Ks and 26 BBs.

The Red Sox are 7-15 in their last 22 in game one of a series and 0-4 in their last four Friday games. Boston is 5-1 in Rodriguez’s last six Friday starts and 4-1 in his last five starts.

Meanwhile, the Orioles are 13-38 in their last 51 Friday games and 11-44 in their last 55 in game one of a series. Baltimore is 4-11 in Cashner’s last 15 starts in game one of a series and the over his 5-1 in his last six home starts.

Rodriguez has been pretty solid over his last three games, putting up seven earned on 17 hits over his last 17 innings, and he’s 2-1 during that time.

As for Cashner, he had consecutive bloated starts last month (11 earned; 10 innings) but calmed down in Houston his last time up with one earned in 6.0 innings.

If the Orioles are going to sneak away with one, this is a good spot to do it. I’ll go Baltimore.
