The Line: Baltimore Orioles +100 / Chicago White Sox -110 --- Over/Under: 9.5
The Chicago White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles meet in game one of a three game set from Camden Yards in MLB action on Friday.
The Chicago White Sox will look to build some steam after snapping a seven game losing streak with a 4-2 win in their series finale against the Royals on Wednesday. Tim Anderson and Jose Rondon each had two RBIs and a home run with Anderson going 2 for 6 at the dish. Adam Engel went 2 for 4 with a triple while Nicky Delmonico and Omar Narvaez each added a base hit as well in the winning effort. Carlos Rodon gave up two runs on five hits while walking and whiffing five apiece, not factoring in the decision after six innings of work. Juan Minaya got the win to improve to 2-2 this season while Hector Santiago picked up his 2nd save of the season. James Shields will start game one and is 6-16 with a 4.58 ERA and 142 strikeouts this season. In his career, Shields is 11-8 with a 3.85 ERA and 139 strikeouts against Baltimore.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to finish the season on a high note after losing 10 of their last 12 but took a step in the right direction with a 5-3 win over Oakland in their series finale on Thursday. Tim Beckham led the way with two RBIs, while Jace Peterson had a double and an RBI and John Andreoli and Breyvic Valera each had an RBI to round out the scoring for the O’s in the win. Joey Rickard had two hits while Cedric Mullins, Jonathan Villar, Trey Mancini and Renato Nunez all had base hits to cap off Baltimore’s offense in the victory. Dylan Bundy got the win after allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Mychal Givens also recorded the save after closing out the bulk of the 8th and all of the 9th innings. Luis Ortiz will start game one and is 0-0 with a 40.50 ERA this season. This will be Ortiz’s first career start against the White Sox.
Chicago is 6-24 in Shields’ last 30 road starts and 1-7 in their last 8 games overall while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 road games. Baltimore is 24-70 in their last 94 games overall and 16-35 in their last 51 home games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 Friday games. The over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Baltimore.
The White Sox have the more experienced starter in Shields and have been winning a lot more than Baltimore lately, but that doesn’t change the fact that Shields has been rocked more often than not this season. On the flip side, I’m not backing a 100+ loss Baltimore team, sending Ortiz to the mound for his first career start after allowing three runs in less than one inning in his major league debut last week. Give me the over as I see both starters getting hit early and often.
