The Kansas City Royals and the Baltimore Orioles will meet up on the MLB diamond to begin their series on Monday.
KC is coming off a set against the Mets this weekend. After winning Friday and falling Saturday (both 4-1), in the Sunday game the Royals dropped one 11-5.
For the Monday game, the Royals will go with Jorge Lopez in the start. Lopez is 1-7 this year with a 6.51 ERA and 82 strikeouts.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they’re fresh out of a series versus the Red Sox. Baltimore fell 9-1 Friday and 4-0 Saturday in that one. In the Sunday finale, the Orioles lost once again 13-7.
Baltimore will send out John Means in the start on Monday. This year Means is 8-8 with a 3.76 ERA and 84 Ks to his credit.
The Royals are 15-36 in their last 51 Monday games and 16-44 in their last 60 versus the AL East. KC is 5-16 in their last 21 overall and 1-6 in their last seven in game one of a series.
Meanwhile ,the Orioles are 90-219 in their last 309 overall and 8-25 in their last 33 Monday games. Baltimore is 15-58 in their last 73 in game one of a series and 1-4 in Means’ last five starts.
Lopez came out pretty strong in his August 8 start, but wasn’t able to do much after that and couldn’t complete the second inning. He accounted for two hits three walks and five runs there.
As for Means, he’s 0-3 in his last three starts and put up just 3.2 innings his last appearance. There’s not a whole lot to like here really, but I’ll give the at-home Orioles a slight edge.
