The Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles meet in the opener of a three game set from Camden Yards in MLB action on Friday.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to pick up some steam after winning their series with Detroit, taking the series finale by a final score of 13-0 on Thursday. Tommy La Stella had a pair of home runs and four RBIs while Zack Cozart chipped in two RBIs with a double. Albert Pujols, Justin Bour and Kole Calhoun each had solo home runs while Mike Trout, Brian Goodwin and Shohei Ohtani each added RBIs in the win. David Fletcher went 2 for 5 with a triple while Kevan Smith and Andrelton Simmons each had a double with Smith going 2 for 4 at the dish in the win. Felix Pena picked up the win to improve to 2-1 after tossing seven scoreless innings, striking out seven. Trevor Cahill will start game one and is 1-3 with a 6.95 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cahill is 3-1 with a 1.97 ERA and 28 strikeouts against Baltimore.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to rebound after losing the rubber match of their series with the Boston Red Sox, dropping the finale by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday. Trey Mancini went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles and Baltimore’s lone RBI while Joey Rickard, Rio Ruiz and Pedro Severino each had base hits as well as the O’s cranked out just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Andrew Cashner gave up one run on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Yefry Ramirez ended up with the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year. Dan Straily will start game one and is 1-2 with a 7.43 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. In his career, Straily is 2-4 with a 7.49 ERA and 45 strikeouts against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 8-4 in their last 12 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Baltimore is 3-8 in their last 11 games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Los Angeles is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
Cahill has had some solid numbers against the Angels in his career, but lately he’s struggled, allowing 19 runs in his last 15.2 innings over four starts. Straily on the other hand, has allowed five runs in three different appearances this season and has a bloated ERA in his career against the Angels. Seems like a good spot to take the over given the pitching matchup.
