New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore Orioles +180 / New York Yankees -190 O/U: 8
The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles will be kicking off their weekend MLB series on Thursday.
For Thursday’s start, the Yankees will be sending out lefty James Paxton. In his first start of the year March 30 versus Baltimore, Paxton logged 5.2 innings with four hits and one earned run but took a tough-luck loss.
New York dropped their series to the Tigers this week, and on Wednesday in the finale Aaron Judge led a limp offensive effort with one hit and one RBI. DJ LeMahieu added one hit and one run for the Yanks there as well in a 2-1 loss.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they’re going with Alex Cobb on Thursday. Cobb has had some injury issues (groin) coming into the year, but toward the end of last season the had a nice run with seven quality starts in eight outings.
Baltimore’s hot start skidded a bit on Wednesday versus the Blue Jays with a 5-3 loss. Trey Mancini provided the Orioles’ only offensive life, bagging a three-run homer in the ninth inning that prevented the shutout.
The Yankees are 38-17 in their last 55 in game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five versus the AL East. The over is 4-0 in New York’s last four Thursday games and 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 1-10 in Cobb’s last 11 home starts and 0-6 in his last six in game one of a series. Baltimore is 8-20 in Cobb’s last 28 starts and 4-9 in his last 13 starts versus the AL East.
I don’t know what to make of the Yankees right now; they’re still really good on paper (even with all the injuries), but New York’s key guys just aren’t stepping up—especially offensively.
As for Cobb, if he can come out firing like he was at the end of 2018 (and get some run support), he could do some major damage. At home against a sketchy New York team I don’t think it’s crazy to take the O’s here.
