Oakland Athletics at Baltimore Orioles
|Date & Time||Monday April 8, 2019, 7:05 PM (EDT)|
Baltimore Orioles +125 / Oakland Athletics -135 O/U: 9
The Oakland Athletics and the Baltimore Orioles will meet up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series on Monday.
Oakland just finished up with the Astros this weekend. The A’s were swept in that series, falling 3-2, 6-0 and 9-8 (on a walk-off walk, of all things). In the Sunday finale, Oakland’s Robbie Grossman led the way on three hits, two runs and three RBI.
For the Monday game, the Athletics will be going with Marco Estrada in the start. Across his 16.1 innings this year, Estrada still has a 0-0 record but sports a solid 2.76 ERA with seven Ks and four walks.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they played the Yankees this weekend. Baltimore was swept in their weekend series as well, 8-4, 6-4 and 15-3. In Sunday’s game, the O’s put up just five hits, four of them belonging to Jonathan Villar and Hanser Alberto.
For Monday’s matchup, the O’s are going with Andrew Cashner on the mound. Over 10.0 innings and a 1-1 mark this year, Cashner has a 5.40 ERA with six Ks and seven walks.
The A’s are 13-3 in their last 16 Monday games and the over is 7-1 in their last eight Monday games. The Over is 5-2 in Oakland’s last seven versus the AL East and the under is 6-2 in their last eight versus a starter with a WHIP more than 1.30.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 16-35 in their last 51 versus the AL West and 4-15 in their last 19 Monday games. Baltimore is 11-42 in their last 53 in game one of a series and 8-20 in Cashner’s last 28 starts.
Needless to say, both these teams are coming out of a weekend funk and need to put up a solid effort here before falling further behind.
Baltimore was utterly destroyed by the Yankees long-ball Sunday, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some more home run theatrics here—the O’s just give up a lot of them.
As for Oakland, I’m more confident in them with Estrada on the hill, but the bats need to get going in order to win this one. I’m sticking A’s.
