Tampa Bay Rays (12-10) at Baltimore Orioles (10-10)
|Date & Time||Saturday May 2, 2015, 7:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Baltimore Orioles +106 / Tampa Bay Rays -116 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Baltimore Orioles look to start a long hot streak beginning with the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
The Tampa Bay Rays did not receive a lot of press in the off season but right now they are playing as well as any team in the American League East which is up for grabs right now. The Rays leaned heavily on their pitching in a 2-0 victory at Baltimore on Friday with Alex Colome tossing a three hit shutout over five frames with four relievers keeping the Orioles bats in check. The offense didn’t do a whole lot but didn’t need to on four hits and a pair of walks with Evan Longoria and James Loney driving in runs. Tampa Bay sends a red hot Chris Archer to the hill to face Baltimore in game two of their series. Archer has not given up and earned run in three consecutive outings where he has struck out 27 in 19.2 frames.
The Baltimore Orioles have not yet found the groove and remain in the middle of the pack in the American League East. The Orioles seemed poised to go on a run with three consecutive victories heading in to Friday but their offense was nowhere to be found and in the process a solid outing from Chris Tillman went for naught. Tillman gave up both runs on three hits and a pair of bases on balls through seven innings as he fell to 2-3 on the year. The offense never got going with only four hits to their credit with four harmless singles. The Orioles give Saturday’s start to Miguel Gonzalez who opposes Tampa Bay for the second time in 2015. Gonzalez is coming off of a 7-5 defeat versus Boston where he was touched for four runs on eight hits over six innings.
Tampa Bay are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 10-1 in Archer’s last 11 road starts while the over is 6-2 in Archers last 8 Saturday starts. The over is 13-2-2 in Baltimore’s last 17 home games and the Orioles are 39-16 in their last 55 home games while the under is 8-2 in Gonzalez’s last 10 starts overall. I’m going to back Baltimore with Archer struggling in this match up but I’d be lying if I said I was betting them…
