The Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles will match up on the MLB diamond Saturday to continue their series.
In the Thursday opener of this set, Tampa Bay took a 5-2 win. On Friday, the Rays kept it going on a 7-1 victory.
For the Saturday game, Tampa Bay will go with Jose Alvarado in the start. Alvarado has a 1-5 record this year with a 4.55 ERA and 39 Ks.
In the win on Friday, the Rays put up 11 hits but only scored in the second inning. Both Pham and Aguilar had two hits and a run apiece.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they’re going with John Means in the start on Saturday. Across his 101.1 innings and 8-9 record this year, Means has a 3.75 ERA with 88 Ks and 32 BBs.
Baltimore could muster just one run on Friday among their five hits. DJ Stewart hat two of those knocks.
The Rays are 11-1 in their last 12 road games and 7-2 in their last nine versus the AL East. Tampa is 19-8 in their last 26 overall and 21-8 in their last 29 road games against a lefty starter.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 21-49 in their last 70 home games and 92-222 in their last 314 overall. Baltimore is 1-6 in their last seven versus a lefty starter and 14-43 in their last 57 versus the AL East.
Means had a couple of bad outings against the Yankees, going 7.1 innings total with 10 earned urns on 13 hits. He fared better his last time out against KC, and in that one Means put up 5.0 innings with two earned on four hits.
Still, Tampa is the more talented team here obviously, and there’s not much the O’s can do right this year. I’m going Rays.
