The Line: Boston Red Sox -140 / Baltimore Orioles +130 --- Over/Under: 9
The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles collide in the rubber game of their weekend set at Fenway Park.
The Baltimore Orioles are looking to separate themselves from the rest of the American League East and have won three of four after downing the Red Sox 4-2 on Saturday. Chris Tillman was strong on the mound with a single run allowed on six hits and a pair of bases on balls over 5.1 frames to improve to 2-1 with three relievers tossing shutout ball. The Orioles did their damage on 13 hits and two walks with Chris Davis going deep and driving in two while with five players logging at least two hits. The Orioles are hoping Miguel Gonzalez can come close to matching his first two outings when he faces the Red Sox. Gonzalez allowed a run on four hits while striking out ten over seven innings of a 4-3 victory versus the Yankees last time out.
The Boston Red Sox have the same goal as their counterparts in that they want to string some wins together and create separation in the American League East. The Red Sox took a step back from their goal in Saturday’s defeat where the offense never got their feet under them. Starter Clay Buchholz pitched out of constant trouble and did a good job of it with just two runs plated on eleven hits through six innings although he fell to 1-2 with the offense struggling to score. The bats totaled seven hits and walked three times with Pablo Sandoval driving in David Ortiz with the lone run. Ortiz and Brock Holt were the only players that played well with three hits each. Rick Porcello toes the rubber against the Orioles in the series rubber match Sunday. Porcello is coming off of a 9-4 win against visiting Washington with four runs allowed (three earned) on four hits in eight frames.
The under is 28-10 in Baltimore’s last 38 games as an underdog and 29-11 in their last 40 road games while the Orioles are 3-8 in their last 11 games on grass. Boston are 6-3 in their last 9 overall and are 6-3 in their last 9 on grass while the over is 19-7-1 in Boston’s last 27 overall. The pitching looks about even to me but if I were going to bet this I would take my chances with the better odds…
