The Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox will meet up to kick off their MLB series on Monday.
Cleveland is coming off a weekend series versus the Rays. The Indians won on Friday 3-1, but fell in the other three games—7-2 on Thursday, 6-2 on Saturday and finally 6-3 on Sunday.
For Monday’s game, the Indians are going with Jefry Rodriguez in the start. Over his 35.1 innings and 1-4 record so far, Rodriguez has a 4.08 ERA with 23 Ks and 13 BBs.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re fresh off a meeting with the Astros. Boston dropped the first two games of that set 4-3 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday. In the Sunday game, the Sox managed to bang out a 4-1 win.
For Monday’s outing, the Sox are going with Rick Porcello for the start. In 56.2 innings and a 3-4 mark so far, Porcello has a 4.45 ERA with 47 Ks and 19 BBs.
The Indians are 1-5 in their last six in game one of a series and 10-4 in their last 14 versus the AL East. The over is 5-1 in Cleveland’s last six Monday games and 6-0 in Rodriguez’s last six starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 11-4 in their last 15 Monday games and 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series. Boston is 6-1 in Porcello’s last seven starts and 6-2 in his last eight home starts.
Rodriguez has had some tough luck lately and a couple of sketchy starts. He’s been able to get just the one win, which is odd because he pitched well in a couple of those losses but the offense couldn’t do much on the other side to help.
As for Porcello, he has five quality starts in his last six outings and has been pretty darn solid overall. I like Porcello to keep it going here, and with Rodriguez on the other side this could be a nice spot to take the under on a fairly high total. I’m going Red Sox as well but probably staying away from that one.
