The Colorado Rockies and the Boston Red Sox will match up in MLB activity on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday game, we had an 11-inning marathon, ending as the Rockies hung on for a tense 5-4 victory.
For Wednesday’s start, the Rockies will turn to German Marquez. Across a 4-2 record this season, Marquez has a 3.43 ERA with 59 strikeouts thus far.
The Rockies logged just six hits on Tuesday, but made them count as far as pushing runners across the plate. Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon both homered for Colorado there.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they’re going with Eduardo Rodriguez on Wednesday in the starting role. Rodriguez owns a 4-2 record this year alongside a 4.53 ERA and 46 Ks.
Boston out-hit the Rockies 9-6 on Tuesday, but left 18 runners on base, which was pretty much the story for the game.
The Rockies are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games and 5-1 in Marquez’s last six starts. Colorado is 5-1 in Marquez’s last six Wednesday starts and 7-3 in his last 10 in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series and 37-14 in their last 51 Wednesday games. The over is 12-4 in Boston’s last 16 Wednesday games and 38-16-3 in the last 57 versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Coming into the week, Marquez was in the top 30 of the National League rankings with a 1.14 WHIP. He’s been good with his strikeout rates (59 Ks in 57.2 innings) and does well at generating soft contact.
Boston’s hitters may give Marquez a little trouble if they’re on, but overall I think there’s enough here to take the Rockies on a victory.
