MLB | Detroit Tigers (28-32) at Boston Red Sox (41-19)
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Out at historic Fenway Park on Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox will be beginning their MLB series.

Detroit just played a Monday doubleheader versus the Yankees. In those games, the Tigers lost 7-4 in the afternoon installment and in the nightcap Detroit won 4-2.

For Tuesday’s game, the Tigers will be going with Artie Lewicki in the start. In his 15.0 innings this year, Lewicki has a 3.60 ERA with 12 Ks to his credit.

Leading the way for the Tigers coming out of the weekend was Nick Castellanos, way out front on 76 hits, 30 runs and 32 RBI. On Monday, Castellanos had two hits, a run and an RBI in game one and in game two he came up empty 0-for-4.

As for the Red Sox, they played the Astros this weekend. After losing the first two games, Boston took the second pair to split the series.

Steven Wright will be going out for the Red Sox on Tuesday. Across 16.0 innings and a 1-0 record this year, Wright has a 2.25 ERA with 14 Ks.

Tops in hitting for the Sox this season is JD Martinez with 69 hits, 37 runs, 19 homers and 50 RBI. Mookie Betts is close behind on 66 hits, 52 runs, 17 homers and 37 RBI.

The Tigers are 6-1 in the last seven during game one of a series and 5-11 in their last 16 Tuesday games. The under is 3-1-1 in Detroit’s last five during game one of a series and they’re 15-37 in their last 52 road games.

Meanwhile, the Sox are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 20-8 in their last 28 home games. Boston is also 41-18 in their last 59 overall and 36-16 in the last 52 Tuesday games.

This is sort of a weird pitching matchup, as Lewicki is making just his second Major League start—filling in for the injured Jordan Zimmerman and Francisco Liriano. As for Wright, this is a spot start for him as the team tries to get the starters a little rest after a long stretch of games. We probably won’t se either guy go too far in this game, so it’s going to be a bullpen outing to some degree. In any case, I can’t see picking against the Red Sox here.

Pick:
Boston Red Sox -220
