|Date & Time||Friday September 7, 2018, 7:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Boston Red Sox -118 / Houston Astros +108 --- Over/Under: 9
The Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox will kick off a big AL series in MLB action on Friday from Fenway Park.
The Astros come into this game sitting at 87-53 overall and 47-21 away from home. Houston has a 3.5-game lead on the Athletics for the AL West division lead.
For the Friday game, the Astros will be sending out RHP Gerrit Cole. In his 176.1 innings and 13-5 record this year, Cole has a 2.86 ERA with 243 Ks and 57 BBs.
Alex Bregman leads the way for the Houston offense this year, and he’s sitting on 156 hits, 95 runs, 29 homers and 96 RBI. Jose Altuve isn’t too far behind on 147 hits, 71 runs, 10 homers and 52 RBI.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they’re cruising right now at 97-44 overall and an impressive 48-18 at Fenway. Barring one of the most epic meltdowns in the history of the MLB, the Sox will take the AL East over the flailing Yankees, who are 9.5 games back.
Boston will be sending out David Price for the Friday start. Across 152.1 innings and a 14-6 record this year, Price has a 3.60 ERA with 152 Ks and 41 BBs.
JD Martinez tops the Boston hitters with 170 hits, 103 runs, 39 homers and 115 RBI. Mookie Betts is second on the team with 157 hits, 111 runs, 29 homers and 71 RBI.
The Astros are 5-0 in their last five overall and 27-12 in their last 39 Friday games. Houston is 20-8 in Cole’s last 28 starts and 25-16 in their last 51 games following a win.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 7-0 in their last seven versus the AL West and 41-15 in the last 56 overall. Boston is 5-1 in Price’s last six Friday starts and 20-6 in his last 26 home starts.
Cole has been pretty darn impressive this year, but he hasn’t logged a quality start in any of his last three outings (he’s allowed eight earned total in that time). Price got touched up a little in his last start, giving up three earned in 3.0 innings versus Miami, but he had been on a great run since then. This should be an excellent pitching matchup, but I have to stick with Boston here. Also, if you like messing with the over/under, this could be a good spot for the under.
