The Line: Boston Red Sox -150 / Los Angeles Dodgers +123 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox will be matching up for Game 2 of the MLB World Series from Fenway Park on Wednesday.
In Game 1 of this championship set Tuesday, the Sox broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning and rode to an 8-4 win.
For Wednesday’s game, the Dodgers will be sending out lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu. So far this postseason, Ryu is 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA.
Tops in hitting for the Dodgers in the playoffs coming into the Series was Justin Turner, with 12 hits, four runs, a homer and four RBI. In Game 1, Turner had three hits and a run.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with LHP David Price for Game 2. In the playoffs thus far, Price has a 1-1 record with a 5.11 ERA.
Heading into the World Series, Xander Bogaerts and JD Martinez were tied for the Sox’ playoffs hits lead with 10 apiece, along with seven runs, three homers and 14 RBI between them. On Tuesday in Game 1, Bogaerts posted an RBI; Martinez had two hits, two RBI and a run.
The Dodgers are 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series and 5-1 in Ryu’s last six starts. LA is 2-7 in Ryu’s last nine Wednesday starts and 2-12 in his last 14 road starts versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 36-17 in their last 53 Wednesday games and 5-0 in Price’s last five starts with five days’ rest. Boston is 21-6 in Price’s last 27 home starts and 39-17 in his last 56 starts.
Ryu was great in the NLDS, but put up a couple relative stinkers in the NLCS against the Brew Crew, going 7.1 innings with seven runs over a pair of starts in that series. This will be Ryu’s first career start at Fenway Park.
As for Price, he’s coming off a confidence-building performance in the ALCS. This year at Fenway, he’s got a 3.39 ERA over 18 starts.
Price hasn’t completely earned my trust back yet, but pitching at home certainly helps matters here. I’m going to stick with the Sox for the Game 2 victory.
