The Line: Boston Red Sox / New York Yankees --- Over/Under:
The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox meet in game two of their three game AL East division set on Saturday from Fenway Park in MLB action.
The New York Yankees will look to build momentum after clinching hoe field in the AL Wild Card game with an 11-6 win on Friday. Aaron Hicks led the way with a home run and three RBIs while Gleyber Torres had a double and two RBIs. Aaron Judge, Luke Voit and Gary Sanchez each belted a solo hoe run, while Gary Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Giancarlo Stanton and Andrew McCutchen each had an Rbi to round out New York’s scoring in the win. Miguel Andujar added a double and Didi Gregorius chipped in a base hit as all nine Yankee batters had a hit in the victory. J.A. Happ got the win to improve to 17-6 after allowing four runs on four hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Lance Lynn will start game two and is 9-10 with a 4.80 ERA and 157 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lynn is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to bounce back after dropping Friday’s series opener. Steve Pearce led the charge with five RBIs, going 2 for 5 with a home run while Xander Bogaerts added an RBI of his own to round out Boston’s scoring in the loss. Andrew Benintendi went 2 for 5 with a double while J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts each chipped in a base hit in defeat. Brian Johnson took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over just three innings of work. Nathan Eovaldi will start game two and is 6-7 with a 3.88 ERA and 97 strikeouts this season. In his career, Eovaldi is 1-1 with a 2.11 ERA and 14 strikeouts against the Yankees.
New York is 16-5 in their last 21 division matchups and 6-2 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 2-5 in Eovaldi’s last 7 starts and 37-16 in their last 53 division matchups while the under is 2-0-2 in Eovaldi’s last 4 home starts. New York is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
I don’t trust either of these starters in all honesty, but both have settled down and pitched quite well lately. With that said, I think the Yankees need this win more to build some momentum towards the Wild Card game as it’s one game, do or die, all or nothing. The Red Sox have a series waiting for them against the winner of that game, but the Yankees have one shot to get the job done. Lynn also has pretty good numbers against Boston and a lot of the Yankees know how Eovaldi pitches from his time with the team, so I’ll side with the Yankees again on Saturday.
