|Date & Time||Tuesday May 15, 2018, 7:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Boston Red Sox -195 / Oakland Athletics +182 --- Over/Under: 9.5
Out at Fenway Park on Tuesday, the Oakland A’s and the Boston Red Sox will be continuing their MLB set.
On Monday in the opener, the A’s eked out a 6-5 victory, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and out-hitting the Sox 11-9.
For Tuesday’s game, the Athletics will be rolling with RHP Daniel Mengden. In his 44.1 innings and 2-4 record this year, Mengden has a 4.06 ERA with 33 Ks and five walks.
Entering this set, the A’s leading hitter was Jed Lowrie with 54 hits, 17 runs and 36 RBI. In the Monday game, Lowrie went 0-for-4.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they’re going with Eduardo Rodriguez on Tuesday. Over his 37.1 innings and 3-0 record this year, Rodriguez has a 4.58 ERA with 47 Ks and 16 BBs.
Boston’s top bat coming out of the weekend was JD Martinez, with 51 hits, 24 runs, 10 homers and 33 RBI. On Monday, Martinez had a homer and a pair of hits.
The A’s are 3-8 in their last 11 Tuesday games and 4-1 in Mengden’s last five road starts. Oakland is also 2-7 in Mengden’s last nine starts in game two of a series and 1-4 in his last five road starts versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 35-16 in their last 51 Tuesday games and 5-0 in Rodriguez’s last five home starts versus a team with a losing record. Boston is also 7-0 in Rodriguez’s last seven starts and 8-0 in his last eight Tuesday starts.
Mengden has a couple of bumps in the proverbial road this year, but has been solid overall; he’s coming off a quality start versus the Astros. Rodriguez had a couple of bad starts in a row (10 earned in 10.0 innings) but calmed down against the Yankees for one hit in 5.0 innings. I’m sticking with the Red Sox here.
