The Line: Boston Red Sox -144 / Seattle Mariners +134 --- Over/Under: 9.5
The Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox square off in game one of their three game set from Fenway Park in MLB action on Friday.
The Seattle Mariners will be out to snap a four game losing streak after being swept by the Yankees, including a 4-3 loss in the series finale on Thursday afternoon. Kyle Seager led the M’s with two RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, while Ben Games added an RBI as well to cap off the scoring for Seattle in the loss. Nelson Cruz and Mike Zunino each had a double with Cruz going 2 for 3 at the plate, while Dee Gordon, Ryon Healy and Andrew Romine each recorded base hits as well in defeat. James Paxton took the loss, falling to 6-2 this season after giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out nine over five innings of work. Wade LeBlanc will start game one and is 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, LeBlanc is 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA and 15 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to build some momentum after avoiding a sweep at the hands of Minnesota with a 9-2 win in the series finale on Thursday. Andrew Benintendi and Xander Bogaerts each had two RBIs, with Benintendi homering while Bogaerts added a double. Mookie Betts hit a solo home run, while Mitch Moreland went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Sandy Leon and Jackie Bradley Jr. each added an RBI as well in the win. J.D. Martinez and Brock Holt each had two hits with a double to cap off Boston’s offense in the victory. Rick Porcello got the win to improve to 9-3 this season after tossing seven shutout innings, giving up just one hit while striking out five. Steven Wright will start game one and is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wright is 2-2 with a 1.31 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Seattle.
Seattle is 14-3 in LeBlanc's last 17 starts and 22-9 in their last 31 games overall while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 road games. Boston is 0-4 in Wright's last 4 home starts and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 home games. Seattle is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
The Mariners come in slumping, but the Yankees have done a good job at taking strong teams down all season so I’m willing to give the M’s a pass. Plus, they’ve got LeBlanc starting here, who just stifled the Red Sox to the tune of 7.2 shutout innings in his last start and Seattle as a team have won six of his last seven starts. Wright has been solid as well and has a great ERA against Seattle and gave up just one run on the other side in the same game, but I think the Mariners hold some strong value here so I’ll take a shot at Seattle and the plus money on Friday.
